Restaurant Review-Iberia Peninsula

The Iberia Peninsula is one of the most popular restaurants in the Ironbound section of Newark, New Jersey. This is the first restaurant that I visited when I started working in downtown Newark in 2001. I have subsequently visited this restaurant with my friends and family on different occasions. I visited this restaurant yesterday with my wife.
This restaurant with a historical name- Iberia Peninsula is a beautiful place to eat and wine. They cater for everybody irrespective of your race or age. “They are famous for bringing guests huge portions of authentic Spanish and Portuguese cuisine for a great value”.

What I learnt from the first three drafts of my assignment.

I learnt a whole lot from the three drafts. I choose a topic that was difficult for
me to condense in just two pages. While I was making effort to condense my
story in two pages, I failed to fully explain the major areas of my essay. I also
observed that in my first draft, I tried to introduce my essay when I was
expected to go straight to the main topic since it was a personal and a short
essay. Professor Brian Lorin was able to pin point these mistakes and also
gave me tips on how to improve on my second draft. My second draft was
alright and the correction was minimal. By the final draft, I was able to
achieve the desired result-An essay that really conveyed my story to my
audience in a short and precise language. Thanks to Professor Lorin.

Essay using Monosyllabic words.

When Professor Brian Lorio gave this assignment in class, I related it to my understanding of
monosyllabic words and immediately concluded that it will be a bit difficult writing this essay. The
use of monosyllabic words to write about my favorite song was actually a bit difficult because it
limited my choice of words. It also made it difficult for me to fully express myself as I was
instinctively reminded of my restrictions. While I await Professor Lorio’s review of my essay, I will
say that this assignment helped me to be more constructive with words.

Writing Process

I have utilized different writing process in my previous writings. My writing

process varies with each assignment. Though there are basic writing process

that I most often use namely brainstorming, listing and the recursive model of

writing (Drafting, prewriting and rewriting). Once I start brainstorming and

pondering over my assignments, ideas keep coming to me irrespective of where

and what I am doing at that time. As the ideas are coming, I will be listing them in

that sequence on a piece of paper.

In this particular assignment, I am writing exactly the topic (My vacation to Cape

Town, South Africa) which I choose during our writing process exercise with

Professor Brian Lorio in class. You will recall that we employed brainstorming,

listing, freewriting 1 and 2 and questioning. When I got home, I further employed

the following writing process namely; conversing, researching, drafting, prewriting

and rewriting to complete the entire assignment.

The fear of personal writing

Fear is to be afraid or feel anxious or apprehensive about a possible or probable
situation or event. Everyone of us has some element of fear or phobia for one
thing or another. Even when you are the best in any act or activity, you will
always develop some level of fear when you are about to commence the activity.
As I began to organize my thought to write on this assignment “The fear of personal writing”, I was scared and fearful whether I will be able to put down my thought in an orderly manner within the time that I have apportioned to complete this assignment. Also, in a manner that will impress my professor and any one that will have the opportunity to read this write-up in the future. My fear gradually disappears as I progress and my confidence in writing gradually returns as I observed that I am within the time frame.

To this end, I have searched my mind and pondered over this assignment with a clear reflection on my seventeen years post graduate career and came to the conclusion that my fear of personal writing lies on my inability sometimes to apportion enough time to articulate my thoughts and put them in an orderly form that will thrill and convey the right message to my audience.

In the light of the foregoing, I have developed a trait over the years whereby I ponder over any assignment in advance, such that once I commence the write-up/assignment, my thoughts will be well organized and I will conclude the write-up in a timely manner though sometimes, I fall outside of the time frame.
